Late Summer Love
My mind is still gripped to late summer love
Pink cotton candy in our sunset sky
Reflections of dim downtown lights above
Riverbank rocks and water bottle wine
You put lipstick on just to kiss my cheek
And spray soft perfume on your last love note
Good Lord willing and no rise in the creek
I might get past this blue closure we wrote
Now my ruby cheek has only been smudged
I lied and thought young minds needed more time
I wait as if you’re not already loved
I should have held tight to sunsets and wine
“I’ll run to you if I see you again.”
How long until I quit wondering when?
