Open Cage
On the rough days when I can’t make it
When the world is crushing my shoulders and I can’t breath
He opens up
His chest splitting in two, his ribs peeling apart one by one
In that moment, his heart lay bare, exposed, and beating,
But he trusts me to be careful
Like I trust him to let me out
So, I step in
Wrapping myself in his skin and bone
Protecting his heart
As he protects me
And I know when I’m ready, I can open the cage and leave
But not quite yet
